Living Foods Pioneer a Cancer Survivor...

ANN-WIGMORE-LIVING-FOOD

Raw and living foods lifestyles would probably not even be around today if it were not for the pioneering work of Dr. Ann Wigmore. Dr. Ann developed the Living Foods lifestyle® and trademarked it in order to protect the integrity of her work and lifestyle that does not stop at food.

As a child, Dr. Ann learned about natural healing from her grandmother, who used plants, grasses, and herbs to heal soldiers injured in World War I. When, at age 50, she learned she had colon cancer, she turned to raw greens, blended seeds, and grains. Within a year, she was cancer-free. She began researching the healing properties of grasses, and soon settled on wheatgrass as her main focus. The Living Foods Lifestyle® uses wheatgrass as a nutritious elixir, as well as for colon cleansing. Ann Wigmore is responsible for making sprouts and wheatgrass famous!

NATURAL-HEALING-RAW-FOOD-BOOKIf you have not read any of Ann Wigmore's fabulous books, I highly recommend them. My favorite is Overcoming AIDS and other "Incurable Diseases" The Attunitive Way: Through Nature.

She must have been at her writing "peak" during the writing of this book, as it beautifully communicates the fundamental reasons behind why living foods are important, and in an inspirational way. Not everyone can explain the real reasons why this food is important. The beauty of the truth she learned through her lifestyle comes through so directly and simply and communicates clearly the consciousness behind living food lifestyles. Furthermore, Dr. Ann was actually jailed for distributing this book. Since I have kind of a rebel spirit and love anything that directly exposes medical or cultural dogma and falsity, that might explain why I loved this book! Although she very much became a kind of rebel writing it and distributing it, this book is actually very loving and from the heart, and just naturally addresses cultural problems through its truth.

From Juicing to Blended Foods

When Dr. Wigmore first begin her teachings, she promoted juicing and raw foods, but later in her career and studies she developed the living foods lifestyle®, which no longer used the term "raw" foods or supported alot of juicing, because just promoting raw food can be confusing as it is not really easy to digest without proper preparation techniques. If we are going to promote optimal health then it becomes necessary to promote specifically prepared raw foods for optimal digestion. Thus the living foods lifestyle was created. Also, she personally experienced how juicing can detox people too quickly as well as removed all the fiber as nature intended it to have, and so her lifestyle promotes blended foods and soups instead of lots of juicing. It may have been Dr. David Jubb who taught her the importance of this. In her own words:

"Blending helps the body to clean itself and thus it restores health much quicker than just eating the foods as salads, yet it does not overtax the system with the rapid cleansing action of juices," she wrote. "Also, juices do not contain fiber. Separating the fiber and other elements from the juice results in a food that is not as balanced as Nature would have it." This sounds exactly what David Jubb has told me time and time again as part of the LifeFood philosophy.

Health Institutes in Her Honor

Dr. Wigmore was Founder-Director of the Ann Wigmore Natural Health Institute in Puerto Rico and the Ann Wigmore Foundation in Boston, Massachusetts. The Ann Wigmore Natural Health Institute is one of the primary bases for the Living Foods movement in the world. It was Dr. Ann Wigmore's spiritual home, where she wrote much of her later work, as well as a nexus point for thousands of souls active in the world Raw Food community, including David Wolfe, Rhio, Victoria Boutenko, David Jubb, Viktoras Kulvinskas, Joseph Custer, and many more.

It was her mission was to create and educate people about a lifestyle that was healing and aligned with the laws of nature. Dr. Ann followed Hippocrates' belief that food was our medicine and medicine was our food. But she didn't stop with food. Her lifestyle was a total approach to living in order to change one's consciousness. She also knew this lifestyle was, and, continues to be, a process.

The Living Foods Lifestyle®

The Living Foods Lifestyle® consists of uncooked nutritious foods such as greens, vegetables, fruits, nuts, grains, and sprouted seeds. Salads, cultured preparations, dehydrated snacks, Rejuvelac, wheatgrass juice, and Wigmore's famous "Energy Soup" are created from these foods. The food is high-enzyme, chlorophyll-rich and extremely easy to digest so that your body can receive optimal nourishment while devoting very little energy to the digestive process. This helps the body to achieve homeostasis by freeing energy to be used for healing, wellness, and disease prevention.

This is the same food you find in the LifeFood Lifestyle, which I promote over and above any of these other philosophies, although they all have their wisdom and parallel in many ways, especially LifeFoods and Living Foods.

Her Death and Current Teachers

Dr. Ann died an untimely death from smoke inhalation in a fire in her Boston center in February, 1994. At the time of her death, she was 84 years young and had more energy than most 20-year-olds!

I never got the chance to meet Dr. Ann, or go to any of her centers, but my main teacher whom I studied with for many years, Dr. David Jubb, gave me teachings that I find our even more profound then what is offered at Ann Wigmore's centers. I am so grateful that he was my first teacher so that I really learned these foods as a full lifestyle and with the important consciousness of how to blend and ferment foods and cleanse the body for optimal digestion and vitality, just as you would learn at the centers. The fundamental living food preparation practices he teaches, and that are taught at Wigmore's centers, are dramatically important for anyone truly interested in the lifestyle long-term. I know that learning these in the beginning were what made it possible for me to be successful on lifefoods immediately and remain successful for 9 years!

However, Dr. Jubb would not promote the amount of colonics that are given at these centers or the fact that they don't do upstream cleansing, meaning removal of gall stones first before you get to the colon etc. Jubb says you leave these centers "with your gall stones still intact." Wigmore thought that Gall Bladder and Gall Stone Cleansing was too intense for people, and instead taught that the gallstones would naturally release over time on a Living Food Diet. Personally, I would not want to wait, even if it is true that eventually they would release. Yet from what I know about the hardness and impaction of most people's gall stones, I don't believe that they will always release on their own. Furthermore, the time it would take for them to break down over time is so long, that the health difficulties they are causing the person will make it quite difficult for someone to remain on living foods, therefore causing failure. I watch people fail on raw and living foods and know that if they had done some LifeFood upstream cleansing, they most likely would have had a more successful experience and gotten a lot farther.

So I would say get those gall stones out! I think it takes a little bit of help from gall bladder flushing. Dr. Jubb and his wife Annie use the term lifefoods; please read about their wonderful contribution to the raw food community and literature.

“One of the most persistent messages clamoring for our attention in these troubled times is that we have abandoned Mother Nature and will pay the price for our folly. Living in environments that are out of touch with her rhythms, we have forgotten that the earth in its natural state has a tremendous capacity to nurture us and heal us. Also, we have forgotten that the Creator has already provided the natural means to regain our physical, emotional, and mental balance once we come to our senses and stop ignoring Mother Nature's Laws ”
